SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ABOUT TRAINING
|
|
Q. Can anyone ride a motorbike?
A. Most people do not struggle too much with the training but occasionally someone will
need extra help, which we can arrange. Being already able to ride a push bike is essential, and having some road sense, perhaps because you are already a vehicle user, will be an asset. If you are under 5 foot 4 inches tall, you may be restricted to the size of bike you can ride...just let us know when you ring up and we'll be able to advise you better.
Q. What is meant by a Guaranteed Pass Scheme?
A. With us, it means, quite simply, that if you don't make the grade first time around, we
will give you a free helping hand. If you do not reach the level of CBT, for example, we will give you a second CBT free of charge. All you will have to pay for is the bike hire. If you fail your practical test, we will give you up to two further free training sessions. Again, you would be liable for bike hire and your test fee. (The guarantee is subject to conditions. Ask our office for more details.)
Q. Is there anything I can do to prepare myself for motorcycle training?
A. Absolutely! Familiarise yourself with the latest copy of The Highway Code for a start, and
for further reference, read Motorcycle Riding: The Essential Skills, both published by the DSA (Driving Standards Agency). |
|
Also, start to think like a bike rider! When you
are out on the road (walking, driving or even travelling by bus) start looking out for things that might pose a hazard for someone on two wheels. Look at the road surface for instance. Try to anticipate the actions of other road users. |
|
All of these things become much more important to someone on a bike and, being less
visible and more vulnerable, you have to think not just for yourself but for everyone else on the road too! You'll find a much greater level of concentration is required to ride a bike than drive a car! |

Q. What's this free CD I've heard about?
A. This is something we're very proud of and it is exclusive to us at Advantage!
|
|
It's jam-packed with information, tips, animation and test questions to help you with your
training and with motorbike riding in general. We're giving it away free to anyone who books a full licence course to help you get the most from your training and to boost your chances of passing your test first time. For anyone not on a full licence course, the CD-ROM is available direct from our office at a cost of £15. If you subsequently book a full licence course, we will refund your £15 from the cost of your training. |
|
Q. What can I do if I can't fit my training around my work?
A. Ideally, your motorcycle training is something you should set time aside for so that you
can concentrate on it 100%.
But if you really can't be away from the office for any length of time, why not sign up for our
Executive Course? This is a premium rate, one-to-one course, offered outside normal workings hours. Choose between 7:00-8:45am or 5:00-6.45 pm (other times may be negotiable). It's not the cheapest of options, but we have designed it with value for money in mind and can guarantee you the personal attention to detail that comes with one-to-one tuition.
Q. What should I bring with me for the start of my course?
A. Before your course begins we will send you full details of what you need to take, but in
brief, make sure you have with you your driving licence (both parts with the new photocard licence-photo id if you have the older paper style licence), your Theory Test certificate and CBT certificate if you already have them. Remember that you will not be allowed to take your practical test without a theory test pass certificate. If you are using your own bike for training, then it must be taxed and roadworthy. You will need to bring your insurance documents and an MOT certificate if applicable. Also, bring glasses if you normally wear them and dress appropriately. We will not train people in shorts and T-shirts! Jeans or strong trousers, flat boots and a sturdy jacket are advisable. We'll provide you with helmets, gloves, waterproofs and high visibility tops free of charge, but bring your own helmet or gloves if you have them as these are likely to fit you better. |
|
Q. After my test, what then?
A. That depends very much on you! Some people opt for more training to take them beyond
their test to a more advanced level, which we can arrange for you. Others just want to be off on their own. But do remember that at Advantage we're still here for you long after you've ripped up those L-Plates! Advantage offers its customers a bike inspection service for people who are thinking about buying a second hand machine and want to know exactly what they're getting before they pay out. Alternatively, if you've taken the plunge already, bring the bike round to our workshops and a mechanic will give you a free (and honest!) appraisal of its condition and will itemise any work that is recommended. |
